Our Story
Farmgate Flowers started quite simply - with a love of flowers.
My husband and I were milking goats in the Waikato, the industry was in a bit of a downturn and I somehow stumbled across dahlia tubers.
I started with three mystery dinner plate dahlias, the pictures of what they could be were beautiful, and I had no idea what I was doing, but I purchased them anyway.
Turns out they were way more beautiful than their pictures, and I was hooked!

The following season I bought quite a few more, all different varieties and I quickly realised that I had way too many flowers for just me alone to enjoy. I gave them to family, friends, local rest homes and churches, but still there were more.
I started thinking - "What if I could share them locally from my home?"
My husband took on yet another project for me, this time making me a unique flower stand out of an old trailer that we had laying around.

We parked it at the bottom of the driveway where people could come and get flowers throughout the day, offering single stems and later wrapped bouquets.
I quickly discovered just how much I loved that part too - choosing the blooms, making the bouquets and knowing that something I had grown and purposely put together was going to brighten someone else's day.
And so, Farmgate Flowers was born.

What started as "I have too many flowers!" has grown into something I genuinely love. Locally grown, freshly picked, beautiful flowers!
I still can't pick a favourite, and I still buy more tubers every year!
I always say "Be careful, Dahlias are addictive! You can never have just one. It's always maybe just one more!!!"
